Presented by Jane Schmaltz. The mural will be collaboration by all workshop attendees. Each participant will be given a section of a photo to either copy or “interpret” in the medium of his/her choice. At the end of the session, all pieces will be assembled to create the “photo” artwork as a whole. Bring a lunch. Public (non-Manito Art League members) welcome for a $10 fee.

This is a two-day workshop. Monday we will create color sheets of paper to be used for collage using fluid acrylics, watercolors, and gels. Tuesday we will use these sheets to create collage paintings. Wear painting clothes and bring a lunch each day. You will have plenty of sheets to take home and use for further paintings.

Paper Transformed: Imagine tiny threads of color vibrating from the paint source. That is what water webbing has to offer. It is a beautiful delicate effect and a soft method to use with stamping. We will learn this technique which works especially with a creation of background with watercolors. Bring a lunch.

This workshop/vacation will deepen understanding of how the original people of America live, allow you to see the earth as viewed through native spiritual traditions, and to reconnect with Mother Earth.

We will be guests at a traditional Native American pow-wow on the sacred grounds of the Chippewa at Lac du Flambeau. There will be a variety of other excursions during the workshop, as well as drumming, arts, crafts, and music in the native tradition. Art project include beading, dream catchers, branch weaving, shield making – directional hoop and more.

Art specialist Naomi Lukes will teach participants how to create mosaic stepping stones and coasters. Ages 4 through adult; children ages 4 – 10 must be accompanied by an adult. The workshop will be held in the Friends of Fred Smith Studio at the Wisconsin Concrete Park one mile south of Phillips. There is no cost for this workshop; however, registration is required.
